Interview: MorgaineG Photography
I'm pleased to announce that I had the pleasure to interview young photographer Morgane Gielen. She is a nineteen years old photography student who studies at Sint-Lukas in Brussels. She's also a personal friend of mine and I'm very grateful that I had the chance to interview her!

How did you get started as a photographer?
"I started photographing friends, family and my pets when I got my first little camera for my 12th birthday from my uncle, who is also a photographer. After a while, when I was 15, I started posting some work on Facebook, just as a hobby. Then I noticed that more and more people gave positive feedback, so I started to take pictures more consciously. And after that it went quicker and quicker, people started to want to work with me."
Have you had any education? Where?
"I studied six years of Art in De Wijnpers, at Leuven. Trough those years I discovered that my main passion was photography. Even during those years I was consistently working with teams to create great shoots, so I decided to give this a shot and started studying this in high school, Sint-Lukas in Brussels. There is not a day in my mind that I regret that choice. This is really what I want to do."
What do you like the most about photographing people?
"I like photographing people when they know I’m pointing a camera at them; For example during my fashion-photo shoots. But I also like photographing daily fragments from people who have no clue I captured them with my camera. For example, for school I had to make pictures of the street in Brussels and London. There, I took some great images from people who will never know they exist on canvas. Not only do I like to show people at their best, I also enjoy capturing things that can’t be seen, like insecurity, doubt or feelings."
What do you pay attention on when you're doing a shoot?
"The main thing I pay attention on at a photo shoot is that the person I photograph is feeling comfortable. When the person is not at ease you can feel it trough the lens. The second thing I always say; If the team is happy and supports the work, the rest will follow."
"I don’t think I’m quite there yet to describe myself to one specific style. I’m still young and try to develop as much as I can in each style. Yes I do a lot of fashion, but I’m still developing. Also I enjoy taking street photography to a next level or to make documentaries of different cultures. I would like to travel a lot when I finish school and make impressions of what I see on the road."
"Not only photographers inspire me but also the models. Sometimes a face can be so expressive that you can’t be anything else then excited. Photographers I look up to goes from Ryan Mcginley to Lukas Wierzbowksi to Maëlle Andre to persons I personally know and are developing their path to trough photography."
"I use photoshop, yes, but only to edit small things like colours, shadows, or to create something unique. I’m still quite a noob at this program so I just try to find my own way (laughing). I don’t use this program to change situations or persons."
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"If I may dream out loud; I see myself travelling the world, working for model-agencies and magazines and constantly capturing new intriguing faces in front of my camera. Challenging myself every time and creating my own personal style that people will recognize."
Does the perfect photograph exist?
"Absolutely not. Every picture is subjective and no one thinks a like. They can shove photographs to the front but I believe that every photographer is unique and special in their own way."
Have you collaborated with people? Who?
What kind of cameras do you use and which one is your favourite?
"I constantly have the honour to collaborate with creative minds during my shoots. Not only make-up artists and stylists, but also young and ambitious models or assistants."
"I use the CANON EOS 550D. Speaking of camera’s; I just ordered my new one, a CANON 6D. I think that will become my favourite from the moment I can shoot with it :).
Next to that I love to use the 50mm lens. Not that expensive and a must-have for every photographer."
I had a wonderful time talking to Morgane and I really love her work. It's young, fresh and full of emotions. If you wanna see more of her work you can follow her on:
